It’s no secret, Social Networking is the new SEO. The last couple of years have seen a major rise in popularity for sites such as Twitter and LinkedIn. If you’re a user of both then you’re in for a treat, it was announced last week that the two social networking giants are now integrated!

Now it’ s possible to Tweet to LinkedIn and post your status updates to Twitter. Once you have allowed the two to share each others updates via the LinkedIn and Twitter settings respectively all you have to do is simply add the #in hashtag to the end of the update you wish to share on both accounts.

The LinkedIn blog has compared wanting Twitter and LinkedIn to work together to “Peanut Butter and Chocolate”. With the new changes you can amplify the audience of your tweets/statuses by posting to the other site, whether or not this will work to plan is another question but the idea, in our eyes, is a good one!

Everyone is familiar with Google, it’s everywhere, you can’t miss it. What started off as a mere search engine has now evolved into something bigger, much bigger. Since 1998 it has grown exponentially and it doesn’t show any signs of stopping. Enter Google’s latest project. Simple.

Simple is a new compiler and run time for the popular Android operating system. Google say the aim of Simple is to ‘bring an easy to learn and use language to the mobile world and the Android platform’. The language it self is a BASIC (Beginner’s All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) dialect that is kind to beginner programmers.

There isn’t all that much information on the Simple website about what it does or how it does it, just a few tutorials to get you started is all that you will find. We will certainly be keeping an eye on the development of Simple and the progress it makes so check back for regular updates!

Slowly but surely new features for the latest version of HTML are making their way into our browsers. Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, Chrome, IE 8 and Opera 9 all now including working examples of what we can expect when the full version is released. The question is will these new features exile existing technologies such as Adobe’s Flash Player and Microsoft Silverlight.

HTML 5 aims to fix something that has been lacking in previous versions of the markup language, Web Applications. At present third party plugins such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight and Sun Microsystems (soon to be Oracle) are used to create a rich multimedia interface on the web, HTML 5 aims to replicate this without having to use these third party plugins.

One of the new features in HTML 5 is the ability to add videos to your web page, much like the way you add an image, this will obviously cut out a large amount of time embedding flash in to your site. You can see an example of the new <video> tag here. (Only works in Firefox 3.5)

Even though the some features are available now HTML 5 won’t be fully rolled out for another two years or so, until then Flash, Silverlight and Java will still be the main port of call for all of your web application needs.

For a full list of HTML features, you can visit the W3C HTML 5 Overview page.

When it comes to Internet security there is one age old risk that developers are still ignoring. The theft of a user’s browser history.

There is a sign of improvement though. A new site has appeared that is designed to raise awareness of this flaw. With the click of a button Start Panic will give you a list of all the websites in your browser history. The ease and speed at which this list is populated is scarily easy. All it takes is one block of JavaScript code and your browser history can be exposed without any resistance.

There is one way to stop these JavaScript attacks and that is using the No-Script add-on for Mozilla Firefox. The installation of this add-on will stop any JavaScript on a site. Why all browsers don’t include this functionality out of the box is beyond us.

A petition to get this functionality is available to sign on the Start Panic website.
